Deinonychus dinosaur skull. Deinonychus antirrhopus or “dire claw”. Deinonychus is a genus of carnivorous theropod dinosaurs from the Dromesaurid family. Deinonychus could reach 3.3 meters in length with a skull length of 410 millimeters, a height at the thigh of 0.87 meters and a mass of up to 100 kg. The skull bore powerful jaws, equipped with 70 curved, blade-like teeth. Deinonychus is known for being used under the name Velociraptor in the «Jurassic Park» film series. In films, they portrayed dinosaurs with the size, proportions, and shape of a deinonychus muzzle. It was the models based almost entirely on Deinonychus rather than Velociraptor that were used to create these frightening but memorable lizards.
